PROFILE OF THE WEEK
Every week we intend to display the profile of one of our members. To do this we need each member to write 300- 500 words about your business's background, your aspirations, things you wish you'd known earlier, and things you've learnt that you'd like to pass on to other women entrepreneurs. A photo would be useful as well. We'll display these profiles on the site in the order in which we receive them, so let Val or Helen have them as soon as possible!

This week's profile is:

Janette Withey & Quay People - the company that grew with Docklands.

Quay People has evolved and grown dramatically over the past years, identifying and supplying the skilled people necessary to this progressive environment. Janette Withey, Managing Director has over 20 years experience in the recruitment industry and has an innate understanding of this unique area having worked in Docklands for the past ten years. Quay People is the direct result of that experience. Janette previously worked for a huge corporate Employment Agency and reached senior management level before deciding that she wanted to "go it alone". The main reason for such a radical decision was lack of creative vision within a corporate environment and a more strategic role rather than utilising her main personal talents of developing/motivating individual people to obtain growth.

Janette is also on the board of the Docklands Business Club (part of the London Chamber of Commerce) which has been the main source for business development through networking. Janette spends much of her time profiling Quay People, gaining invitations to attend functions on the plans for the area, company relocations, social events, and working with Colleges and training organisations to direct their training to meet company requirements. "By giving advice and support for the community you become the first point of call if they have any queries relative to your industry".

Janette has identified that researching the right buyers rather than selling "willy nilly" is much the better option especially if you employ staff. "Setting yourself and others up to fail is demoralising" . "You need to be specific and clear of your success areas having researched thoroughly the market". "Buying in the right expertise is essential so that you can concentrate on your skill area to maintain service levels and growth".

Janette's future plans are to expand her operations - opening branches in progressive areas that will benefit each other but at the same time profit centres in their own right.
